My Favourite Place: Mary {Iceland}

This week we have Mary from The Abbottses on the blog to tell us all about her favourite place. You can also find Mary on Twitter and Instagram so make sure you go over and say hi 🙂

Tell me a little bit about yourself… I am Mary, mum to 2 small humans. We love to travel and blog our adventures. My passions also include home crafts, photography and general parenting mayhem! I am also a part-time nurse and try to squeeze all this into my spare time!

Where is your favourite place to visit? Very difficult to say but I think I would have to go with Iceland.

Why do you love it? Iceland…was likely to most beautiful place I have seen so far in the world. I loved the fact that everything is there for you to enjoy without the crowds, and the raw beauty is just phenomenal.

Iceland is a youngster in geological terms, and is still forming. There is still so much we haven’t yet seen and my soul yearns to go back. Definitely a favourite all-round!

Can you describe it for me? What struck me most was just how remote most of the country was once you get outside of Reykjavik. You can drive for miles and not see a single person.

Another thing that stuck out was the variety of landscape. As we drove further out, we went from ice-capped mountains to green fields with hundreds of waterfalls, to moss-covered lava fields, to black ash fields.

How often have you visited? Twice – the first time we stayed in Reykjavik, but the second time we were a bit more adventurous and hired a car!

Would you recommend other people visit and how would you sell it to them? Exploring the word with young kids has its highs and lows, but travelling nearly 1000 miles just to see the look of amazement and curiosity in their little faces is something I will never forget. The raw beauty is just phenomenal, and is everywhere you look. It is the perfect location to introduce your kids to the great outdoors – not a theme park in sight! Everything is natural, and completely free.

Iceland is the perfect getaway for your kids to just explore at their own pace and really see mother nature in all her splendour!

Tell me the one place you’d love to visit next and why? Thailand – it’s been on my list for forever, I love the variety of culture, food and natural beauty. The people are so lovely and peaceful. NEED to go!

Thanks so much for telling us about Iceland and why you love it Mary! Iceland is very high on our ‘to do’ list, we wrote about it here a while a go… it just looks so beautiful! 🙂
