Last time we were wishing to go to Lapland so it’s only right that we look at somewhere a little warmer today. The place we are wishing to go to today is California. Here are our top reasons why California is in the top 10 of our travel wish list…
The National Parks – With 28 National Parks in the state of California there really are some amazing sites to explore. Death Valley, Redwood and Yosemite would be the top of our list. We love walking and exploring outdoors so this would be absolutely heaven for us. I’d love to see the giant Redwood trees; apparently the Redwood national and state parks in northern California boast the tallest trees, including Hyperion, the world’s tallest living tree which stands at a whopping 379 feet… Wow!
The Beaches – So many wonderful beaches to choose from. Santa Monica would be a total dream for me. Then I would love to take a drive down the Big Sur to see McWay Falls which is an 80 feet waterfall that flows right onto the beach. A trip to the Big Sur wouldn’t be complete without seeing the purple sand at Pfeiffer Beach.
Alcatraz Prison – I’ve always had a thing for history and love to see how other people have lived their lives. I find prisons oddly fascinating… I guess it’s not just me though as Alcatraz is one of San Francisco’s major tourist attractions, attracting some 1.5 million visitors every year.
The Cities – The steep roads in San Francisco absolutely fascinate me! I would love to get to see them in real life, not sure I’d fancy walking up them though! Los Angeles is another city that I couldn’t miss out on visiting… see the sights of Hollywood, the Griffith Observatory, shop on Rodeo Drive, go celebrity spotting and cruise along Sunset Boulevard.
The Theme Parks – There are loads of theme parks in California to enjoy. We love SeaWorld so would definitely want to head to San Diego to visit SeaWorld. Of course we would have to go to Universal Studios Hollywood if only to visit The Wizarding World of Harry Potter! My kids would love to go to Legoland and the Disneyland Parks too!
The Bridges – Well obviously I only have one bridge in mind and that is the Golden Gate Bridge, did you know that it has been named as one of the wonders of the modern world? 1.7 miles long and 90 feet wide… I’d love to walk and drive over it, I think it would be an amazing structure to photograph!
Well I think we’d need a good few months to fit in everything that we want to do in California! I think it will be a wonderful place to go when the kids are in their teens or have possibly left home 😉 but it is definitely somewhere that we are going to focus on going at some point.
Are there any other things that you think we should add to the list? Where would you go?
Ooh I have always wanted to go to California too – it looks amazing and I love the photography you could get in San Francisco with those steep streets!
I’ve always wanted to go too. Looks magical
I’d love to visit California!
I’m taking my teen to New York in a couple of months and we can’t wait!
